SDO GenSan IPEd Schools Celebrate NAMCYA Grand Slam, Honored by SP GenSan for Remarkable Triumph

The Local Government of General Santos City recognized the Indigenous People Education (IPEd) Implementing Schools on January 21 for their impressive achievement of winning the Traditional Music Category at the 2024 National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) for three consecutive years. The IPEd schools—Almatak Elementary, Antonio D. Pendatun Elementary, Upper Labay High School, and Sansapan Elementary—from Katangawan District performed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2022 and at the Metropolitan Theater in 2023 and 2024.

According to their director, Jeffry M. Kapawan, the community worked hard for this “three-peat.” Barangay Captain Hon. Celso B. Sago expressed immense pride and joy for the victory, highlighting the support and prayers from the community. Other IPEd schools from Regions 1, CAR, XI, and XII also won awards.

The Local Government Unit, led by Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao and Congressman Loreto “Ton” Acharon, showed strong support for the group. NAMCYA, established in 1973, is recognized as the premier music competition in the Philippines, promoting and developing young musical talents.
